Here is what you have to lose by becoming a First Fruit Music Project Artist -
Not that much when you consider either of the two likely scenarios:
First Scenario: You invest a lot of money into a very professional and quality CD. In this scenario, it will be quite a while before you have earned back the investment (remember that you are giving primarily just the profits of your CD project). No matter how long it takes, when you do get to profitability, you will know much more about your ministry (and the business) as you prepare for your second CD project.
Second Scenario: You minimize the investment in a number of ways, so it doesn’t take a lot of sales before you’ve recovered your investment. Here, you will quickly get to your second CD project where you’ll know how much more investment you should make to maximize quality and profitability.
It will take a little more sales volume to recover your costs, but essentially, what you lose is the ability to finance your second CD with your first.
You will lose the profit motive. In the world of self-promotion, the money chase can possibly become the drug that ensnares well-intentioned young artists who, if left unchecked, end up using their relationships to get their desires - a practice that could be considered “selling your soul.”
